William C.Talbot (Bill), 87, of Esperance, passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 after a short illness at home with his beloved wife Shirley A. (Hotaling)Talbot of 65 years at his side.
Bill was born in Schenectady, where he resided for 50+ years, on December 17, 1929 to the late Henerietta (Mann) Talbot and Walter Talbot Sr. He also resided in Leesburg, FL for 30+ years.
He attended Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady and Schenectady County Community College.
He served in the US Navy (Korean War Era) on Navy Vessels, Tumult and Revenge as a radio operator and was discharged in 1953. Bill was a member of Bellevue Reformed Church, Boy Scout troop leader pack 22 with his sons, belonged to the Retired Firefighters of Schenectady, was a lifetime Mason member of the St. George’s Lodge #6.
Here in New York he has many grandchildren and as a snow bird in Florida, he had many good friends and was able to see one of his granddaughters grow up.
Bill could be counted on to help anyone in need, friends, family and strangers. In Bill’s professional life within Schenectady City Fire Department, he served residents for 33 years before retiring as Assistant Chief. During Bill’s tenure and one of his proudest achievements, he was instrumental in initiating and building the city’s Paramedic Program that still serves the city today and this program is responsible for saving countless lives. He also owned Talbot Repair Service. After retirement, he worked to replace the fire department radio system. Away from his professional life, Bill enjoyed his Amateur ham radio (WB2EIW) talking with people all over the world, playing golf with friends and grandson, hunting with his sons, was also a dedicated Mets fan, enjoyed many construction adventures with family, enjoyed bowling in a league and with family and friends in Florida.
He was predeceased by Walter Talbot Jr. (Brother), Arthur Howenstein (brother-in-law), Jeremy LaJeunesse (grandson).
Survivors include his children, Dave (Jean Curlee) Talbot, Ken (Barb) Talbot, Cathy (George) LaJeunesse, Linda “Lin” (Bob) Pahl; grandchildren, Katie Curlee (Eliot) Cresswell, Caroline Curlee (Jacob) Greenfield, Christopher Palumbo, Katie Palumbo, Kalyn Talbot (Jerad) Gribben, Matthew Talbot, and Meghan Pahl (Brian) Waggoner; great-grandchildren, Celia Greenfield, Lilyana Palumbo, Keonte McDonald, Amaiya McDonald, and Isabella McDonald; and his sister, Dorothy Howenstein.
Services will be on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the First Reformed Church of Scotia.
