Shirley Talbot Obituary

Shirley Ann Talbot, 88, of Schenectady NY, passed over to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 1, 2021.

Shirley was born in Schenectady, NY on January 23, 1933. She graduated from Pleasant High School in 1950.

Shirley was married to the love of her life William (Bill) C. Talbot on September 1, 1951. Shirley and Bill lived in Charleston, SC, Schenectady, NY, and Leesburg, FL. Together they raised four children and celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in 2016 prior to Bill's passing in 2017. Shirley was a gentle soul who loved God. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother who always found time for her children and grandchildren.

Shirley worked for the Woolworth Company, Domestic Finance Corp., Starfire Distributors, Bounty Sales, U.S, Census, Blue Ribbon Market Research, and the Schenectady Medical Society.

Throughout her life, Shirley touched many lives as a steward to the community. As a member of Bellevue Reformed Church, she volunteered at church in the women's guild, was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent and enjoyed singing in the church choir. She supported her children in all their activities to include being a Boy Scout troop den mother, and leader of the 4-H group. Shirley was on the Fulton Elem. School PTO Board for several years were she played a key role in the school addition, also a member of the Van Corlear PTO, volunteered for the American Red Cross, and the American Cancer Society.

In her early years, Shirley enjoyed writing poetry, sewing, crafts, basket weaving, square dancing, and later in life found her love for art and completed many lovely paintings throughout the years. Shirley was the family historian and documented family events with pictures, and boy did she love to take pictures of her family and friends! Shirley loved rhymes and would end her goodbyes with one.

Shirley is survived by her son David Talbot (Jean Curlee) of Pleasant Valley NY, son Kenneth Talbot (Barbara) of Scotia NY, daughter Cathleen LaJeunesse (George) of Esperance NY, daughter Linda Pahl (Bob) of Cleveland GA, and grandchildren Kalyn Gribben (Jerad), Meghan Waggoner (Brian), Matthew Talbot, Chris Palumbo (Desire), Katie Palumbo (Lloyd), Caroline Greenfield (Jacob), Kathryn Cresswell (Eliot), great-grandchildren Lilyana, Amaiya, Isabella, Celia, and Mabel, and niece Christine Hotaling.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband William (Bill) Talbot, her mother, Lulu Hotaling, her father Ford Hotaling, her brother Burton Hotaling, her grandson Jeremy LaJeunesse, and her nephew Charles Hotaling

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. and a celebration of Shirley's life will begin at 10:00 a.m., both at Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, Scotia.

Burial will take place at Schenectady Memorial Park immediately following the service.
