Rosann Jweid Obituary

Rosann (Histon) Jweid Rosann (Histon) Jweid, born on September 22, 1933, died September 22, 2024 peacefully at her home in Scotia, NY while entering her 92nd year.

Rosann was born in Manhattan, NY and was the daughter of John (Jack) and Ethel Histon. She had a sister/best friend Patricia Marguerite McDonald.

Rosann was born a city girl, gone suburbia. Raised in NYC, graduated from Saint-Barnabas high school in 1951, Bachelor of Science in Education from Oswego State in 1954 and her Master of Library Science from Albany State thereafter.

Rosann married Anthony George Jweid, her college sweetheart and love of her life in 1955, and lived in Scotia, NY for many years. Rosann and George (Tony) were both schoolteachers in Scotia for 30+ years and raised their daughters, Sheila, Claire and Patty in the community.

Now joined in heaven with her husband, parents, other family members and friends, she leaves behind her daughters Sheila (spouse John Webber), Claire (spouse Bob Vadney), and Patricia Mary Dorion. She was a loving "Nana" to her grandchildren, Patricia (Cait), Linda Rose, Kyle, Anthony, and Juliann. She was also beloved by her extended family including: Pat and John McDonald's children Jerry (deceased), Teri, Mary Pat, Kathleen, Matt, and Sean; George's siblings Mary, Jeanne, and deceased siblings Anna, Louis, Alice, Agnes, and Francis and many nieces and nephews.

Rosann was a mom and wife but balanced a successful career of 30 years as a teacher, librarian, library administrator, president of Scotia-Glenville Teacher's Association, lobbyist for NYSUT, and published author.

As an active member of St. Joseph's Church, she devoted time and energy to causes including the St. Joseph's yearly book sale and was a Bereavement Counselor. Within the community Rosann participated in activities including literacy for children, library services for BOCES and the NY Prison system, and library volunteer at Sacandaga elementary school in post-retirement.

Rosann is the co-author of three books with her dear friend Marge Rizzo. As partners they published: Teaching Library Media Skills in Middle and Junior High Schools, Building Character through Literature, and Building Character through Multicultural Literature.

Rosann will be remembered for her intelligence, wisdom, skills at mentoring/teaching and for her passion for fun, quick wit, a good party, and good food. She loved cooking and baking an insurmountable number of holiday cookies with her grandchildren.

Rosann loved reading, NY Times crossword puzzles, and Jeopardy, which we believe kept her mind sharp until the end.

Services will be held at St. Joseph's Church in Scotia on September 27 at 10:30 a.m., followed by a traditional Irish wake in the church hall. Funeral arrangements by Bekkering Ellis Funeral Home, Inc. and St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Please join us at mass and/or the celebration following.
