Robert Michalek Obituary

Robert Michalek, 81, passed away at home on September 24, 2024 with his family after a long illness.

Robert was born in Springfield, MA on December 21, 1942 to William and Helen Michalek, and moved to Scotia, NY as a young boy. He was a graduate of Scotia-Glenville High School, Class of 1961. It was there that he met his lifelong sweetheart, Rita Kyme. His education continued at Clarkson University and then at Union College, as Potsdam was too far away from Rita. They were married at Centre-Glenville UMC on July 10th, 1965, and were married almost 50 years before Rita passed away in 2015.

Robert was interested in all things electronic and made a lifelong career out of computers and programming. He worked for Lafayette Radio in Schenectady, Wolberg Electric, and eventually landed at NYSUT where he worked as a Data Processing Manager until his retirement in 2003 after nearly 20 years.

There was nothing that Bob couldn't fix, and he always had the perfect tool or spare part for the job. He proudly taught his children to ski at West Mountain as a member of the National Ski Patrol. His other interests included amateur "HAM" radio (WA2PEH) and cars- he was especially fond of his Porsche. He enjoyed traveling with Rita in his retirement and loved his annual trip to Cape Cod in their RV.

Robert is survived by his children, Karyn (Paul) D'Amico, Kathy Michalek, and Mark (Tammy) Michalek, and his grandchildren, Michelle, Rachael and David D'Amico, and Zack and Mason Michalek, and his loving cat Georgia.

Bob's family would especially like to thank his loyal caregivers Sorel Evans, Linda VanSchaack, Kecia Darnell, Jill Dunster- Wesley and Andrea O'Malley for all their help, and his sister-in-law Deborah Gauthier for her endless support.

Please join us in celebrating Robert's life at his memorial service on Saturday September 28th at 10:30 a.m. at Centre Glenville UMC, 171 Bolt Rd, Glenville, NY. Interment will immediately follow at the church cemetery. A reception and visitation will follow at the church hall.

Memorial donations can be made to the church or Voice for the Voiceless Feline Rescue.
