Reverend Norman Charles Hamm was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Sunday, December 18, 2016. Norman Charles Hamm was born March 12, 1952 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, New York. He grew up on the farm on Burgoyne Road and graduated from Schuylerville Central School in 1970. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classical Languages from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, in 1974. In 1978 he earned a Master of Divinity degree from Western Theological Seminary, also in Holland, Michigan. In 1976-1977 while on internship from seminary he assisted at churches in Bismarck, North Dakota and Eagan, Minnesota. “Rev.” Hamm’s first pastorate was at Glen Reformed Church near Fultonville, New York from 1978-1981. It was there that he met his wife, Gracia Oevering, Norman and Gracia were married at Glen Reformed Church on October 10, 1981. Over the years they served the following churches: 1978-1983 — Glen Reformed Church, near Fultonville, New York. 1984-1991 — Germantown (New York) Reformed Church. 1991-2000 — Faith Reformed Church, Hazlet, New Jersey. 1999-2000 — Keyport (New Jersey) Reformed Church. 2000-2007 — First Reformed Church of Glenville, West Glenville, New York and they lived in Scotia, New York. 2007-2010 — Pulpit Supply in at least 13 Reformed churches including 6 months at Glen Reformed Church near Fultonville, New York. 2010-2015 — First Reformed Church of Athens, New York. 2015 - Jerusalem Reformed Church, Feura Bush, New York. Norman was predeceased by his parents, John W. Hamm and Naomi R. Riffelbach. Norman is survived by his wife, Gracia (Oevering) Hamm; his sons, William (Rebecca) Hamm, Glenville, NY, Andrew Hamm, Albany, NY, David (Crystal) Hamm, Lynchberg, VA, Peter (Heather) Hamm, Plattsburgh, NY; brother, John Hamm, Raleigh, NC; and nine grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, Inc. Services will be on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Woestina Reformed Church, Rotterdam Junction, NY. Interment will be at the Charleston Christian Church Cemetery, Sprakers, NY.
