Reta M Van Auken

Glenville - Reta M. Van Auken, 98, passed away peacefully at The Glendale Home on Saturday, October 15, 2016, with her best friend at her bedside. Reta was born in Schenectady on May 1, 1918 to the late William K. and Anna M. (Bouton) Van Auken. In addition to her late parents, Reta was predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Myron Brennan and Alice and Howard Lewis. Nieces, Patricia Lewis, Sandra Kerr, Alma Brennan; and nephew, Robert Brennan. She is survived by her best friend and beloved caregiver, Marilyn Snow, Glenville and Marilyn’s entire family. Her loving nephew, Charles (Beth) Lewis, FL; nephews, Richard Brennan and Marc (Brenda) Brennan, CT; niece, Dayna Reardon, CT. Marilyn wishes to express her gratitude to the staff on Dutch Hollow at The Glendale Home, especially Nurse Kathy Vassari, CNA’s Alissa Foote, Rita Smith and Claudia Miller for their outstanding compassionate and loving care of Reta, and to The Hospice of Schenectady team for their kindness and special thanks to Corine Tooley. A private graveside service will be held for Reta at Memory Gardens, Albany, NY. Donations may be made in Reta’s name to The Community Hospice of Schenectady, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY or to the Animal Protection Foundation of Scotia, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY.
