Philip Lewis Horstman

Philip Lewis Horstman, 76 years old, passed away at his home in Clearwater, Florida on April 11, 2025.

  The following services will be at Bekkering & Ellis Funeral home, 1 Mohawk Ave. Scotia, NY 12302 on May 2nd 2025. The wake will be from 9-10am, followed by funeral service at 10 am. Burial will be held at 11:15 am at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 983 Watervliet-Shaker Rd, Albany, Ny 12205. A luncheon will follow at 1pm at the Glenville Queene ROUTE 50 Glenville, NY 12302.

  Philip is survived by his wife Charlene Sumutku Horstman and their 6 year old yellow lab Jordan (Jo-Jo) Elizabeth. Married on July 5, 2011 at Schenectady Rose Garden in NY. He is also survived by his niece Denise Meier of Switzerland, nephew Daniel and his wife Sonja Meier of Australia, great nieces Sarah and Rebekka Meier and great nephew David Meier.  Along with many other family, cousins and friends.

  Philip was born in Schenectady, NY on April 6, 1949. He grew up attending First Presbyterian Church on Union St. in Schenectady, NY. He graduated from Scotia Glenville High School in 1967. He attended the LA Torneau College in Longview TX. He served in the U.S. Airforce 1969-1972 with honorable discharge as a disabled vet. He studied aeronautical engineering in the military. After the military he was employed by Exxon doing non-destructive testing which he was certified in. At the age of 30, Phil moved back to the family farm in Glenville, NY at Horstman Farm and worked alongside his father. Phil took over running the farm and retired in June of 2014 after an unexpected illness. Phil enjoyed God’s country. His hobbies were swimming, boating, biking, and riding his Harley. He made a cross-county trip from CA to NY in the 70’s. He spent much of his time in Clearwater Florida with his wife Charlene and their dog.
