Patricia Welch Engert After a long and wonderful life, Patricia Welch Engert (Patti), of Port Orange, Florida and Scotia, New York, passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on Friday, March 13th. She was born on April 6th, 1947 to Margaret and Francis Welch, one of seven children in a close-knit and boisterous family.
She grew up in Schenectady, New York and had a long career at General Electric, followed by a decade with Saint Joseph's Parish, before retiring to Port Orange, Florida.
Patti married the love of her life, Frederick Engert, in 1978, and together they created a joyful home as parents of Dean Engert, Greg Engert (Kelsey Alabiso), Lara Engert (Shane Cheary), as well as second parents to Lisa Shaffer (Keith).
Patti golfed, knitted, cooked and spun stories throughout her life, cheering on her children, grandchildren and anyone she met along the way. She loved hosting her friends and family for dinners, celebrations, and Giants games, but she truly threw a party each and every day of her life. We were all so lucky to be invited.
No guests were more cherished than her grandchildren. Patti was Mamma, Momma, and Oma to Hayden and Adam Engert, Maggie and Penelope Cheary, and Arlo Engert. She made them pancakes, hugged them endlessly, and never let them win a game. She was utterly devoted to them, gave them everything, and made sure they knew they were the most important people in the world.
Patti was preceded in death by her parents, her parents-in-law, Avis and Walter Engert, her son Dean, sisters Mickie and Barbara, brother-in-law, Francis Engert, and her nephews and niece James, Tommy and Megan Walker. She is survived by her brothers, Bill Welch (Kay) and Ed Welch (Cindy), her sisters, Jackie Zielinski and Donna Moran (Danny); her brothers-in-law, Allen Sinisgalli, Tony Leone and Jim Walker, her sisters-in-law, Dawn Walker and Nancy Engert, many nieces and nephews, countless friends, and every single person who met her and loved her.
Please join the family for an Irish wake to celebrate Patti's beautiful life at the Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, 1 Mohawk Ave., Scotia, New York, on Friday, March 20th 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Requiem Mass will be held on Saturday, March 21st at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph's Church, 231 Second Street, Scotia, New York.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Patti's memory to the Catholic Relief Services.
