It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Maureen Theresa Bekkering.

She is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Don Bekkering; her children, Don (Donna) Bekkering, Maureen “Terri” McKenzie, Gene Bekkering; her 7 grandchildren, Ryan (Jessica), Kevin, Kyle and Shelby Bekkering, David, Jacob and Lucas McKenzie and one great granddaughter, Kaylie Marie Bekkering all of Scotia. She is also survived by her siblings, Joseph of Bradenton, FL and Anne-Patricia Nuzback (Tom Gottschalk) of Fairport, NY. Also surviving are uncles, aunts, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents John S. and Mary (Farrell) Nuzback and her brothers John A. (Jas) and Thomas Patrick (T.P.) Nuzback.

She was the first born daughter at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY on December 2, 1948 to John S. and Mary F. Nuzback. After schooling she met and married Don, December 26, 1966.

Maureen graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Mont Pleasant High School and worked as a dedicated OB/Gyn nurse for many years at Bellevue Maternity Hospital, CHP and most recently for the Drs. Irani's. Her mother's illnesses and then her own cancer ended her nursing career.

Maureen and Don felt their greatest achievement in life was their family and they loved spending time together with them. Maureen was active in her children's lives' as the PTA president for the Scotia-Glenville Middle School where she was presented the Founders' Day Award. She was also treasurer for the Scotia-Glenville Friends of Music for several years and supported all of her children's school, musical and sporting activities.

She also enjoyed spending time camping up in the Adirondacks at Saranac Lake. Being there with the kids and spending time with Don was the most important thing to “Reen.” Life allowed them to do some traveling together and take some cruises to several beautiful places. Life was good!

A Mass will be celebrated in her honor on Saturday August 5th, 2017 at 10:00am located at St. John's the Evangelist Church, 806 Union Street, Schenectady NY. Interment will be at Park Cemetery in Scotia.

Maureen asked that you remember her in whatever way brings joy to your heart.
