Louis Straut Obituary

Louis G. Straut, affectionately known as "Louie G.", passed away peacefully at home on May 21, 2025, at the age of 90, with his loving daughter Gaile & loving son-in-law Kevin by his side. Sharon and her husband Joe, and all that knew and loved Louis, were present in spirit, adding strength and energy to the moment.

Born on December 21, 1934, Louis was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a dedicated worker throughout his life. He began his career as a Loss Prevention Supervisor for Grandway, dabbled in the selling of Amway products, and then segued smoothly into a career in the insurance industry, later working with Hannaford Markets doing resets. Louis was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family.

Louis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edna; his cherished son, Kevin; his parents, Florence and George; and his brother-in-law, Herbert. Louis is survived by his loving daughter Gaile (Kevin) and Sharon (Joe); his grandchildren Krysondra, Kaitlin (Brandon), Nicole (Ken), and Natalie; his great grandchildren Louie and Leah; and his siblings Janette, John, and Richard.

Louie G's greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was a devoted fan of New York sports, especially the Mets (baseball), Giants (football), Knicks (basketball), and Rangers (hockey). He enjoyed fishing with his son, tending to his and Edna's gardens, and tackling crossword puzzles and jumbles with his signature wit. He loved card games and Yahtzee, and he had a gift for poetry and song. When asked by his daughter Sharon what his superpower was, Louis simply replied, "My mind." He was a deep thinker with a loving, generous heart. Through his illness, Louis softened-growing, expressing, and letting go with grace and strength.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday June 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Bekkering Funeral Home in Scotia, with a gathering to follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Glenville Queen Diner. A military service will take place on Monday June 9, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at Saratoga National Cemetery.
