John R. Abare Jr., 91, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center, Schenectady, NY.

John was born on May 4, 1927 in Schenectady, NY to the late John Raymond and Juanita (Cross) Abare Sr.

He graduated from Scotia High School. John was owner and operator of the former Capital Ambulance Service, Washington, DC. He served in the Navy and WWII.

Father of David L. (Brenda) Abare of St. Albins, WV, Linda R. (Clayton) Powers of Tampa, FL, and Juanita K. (Allen) Pigeonowski of Romeo, MI; brother of Agnes (Joseph) Gatta of Scotia and Joseph H. (Roseann Czwakiel) Abare of Delanson, NY; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Church, Scotia, Saturday at 10 a.m., leaving the funeral home at 9:30 a.m.

Calling hours will be at the funeral home on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Burial will in be Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, NY.
