George J. Shartrand, of Scotia, NY, died November 20, 2018 at home surrounded by his adoring children.
George was a loving husband, father, engineer, teacher and devout Catholic.
He graduated from Clarkson University in 1948, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and later pursued his master's degree. George enlightened the young Catholics in the youth ministry program teaching catechism and rumor has it kids even listened. He visited homebound individuals to provide prayer, comfort and the Eucharist. George was a longtime member of St. Joseph Church, Scotia – long enough to remember paper drives and working the tractor trailer as we loaded it up. All of his children attended St. Joseph school K-8 and St. Joseph Church honored him for his dedication and devotion to the faith.
George was predeceased by wife, May, mother of their six children; second loving wife, Jacqueline; sons, George and David and son-in-law, Kevin Forbes. Survived by his son, John (Sharon); daughters, Linda (Kevin) Forbes, Gail (Mel) Cavoli and Mary (Bill) Moehle. Grandchildren, Nicole, Mathew, Thomas, Sarah, Alex, Emma, Billy, Casey, Jacklyn, Jeffrey, Jillian Grace, Jacob and Jack; along with many great-grandchildren.
A mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church on First St., Scotia starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 24, with a Christian Burial to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Family will gladly greet friends from 9 to 10 a.m. in the church community room, reserving 8:30 to 9 a.m. for family. In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Joseph's Church would be a way to express your condolences.
