George A Gatta

February 22, 1930 ~ February 9, 2016 (age 85) 85 Years Old

George A. Gatta passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 9th at Glendale Home. He was born on Feb. 22, 1930 to Joseph Gatta and Mary Ciabotti Gatta in Schenectady, NY. George was a lifelong resident of Scotia. He graduated from Scotia High School in 1948 where he participated in basketball, baseball and football. George worked at the General Electric for 38 years and retired as a designer draftsman. He coached Scotia Little League and umpired baseball for many years. George was an active member of St. Joseph's Parish. Later in life, he was a volunteer at the Scotia-Glenville Senior Meal Center. George is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Robinson) Gatta, of 62 years. His children, George (Vivian) Gatta of Cleveland Heights, OH, Patricia (Richard Fennelly) Gatta of North Greenbush, NY, Susan (George) Stoyan of Liverpool, NY, Cynthia (Joseph) Hurley of Watertown, MA, Stephen Gatta (Mark Peterson) of Los Angeles, CA, John (Debbie) of Mt. View, CA, and Kenneth Gatta of New York City. George is also survived by sisters, Clara Coppola and Mary Ann (James) Marx; and the Gatta brothers, Thomas (Sally), Carmen (Genevieve), Joseph (Agnes) and Robert (Marianna). He leaves 10 grandchildren, Jeremy, Julian, and Sydney Gatta, Alissandra and Elizabeth Stoyan, Michael, Christopher, and Bryan Hurley, and Tyler and Teegan Gatta, and one great-granddaughter, Riley Rose. He was blessed with many wonderful nieces, nephews, and extended family who held a special place in his heart. Calling hours are on Friday, Feb. 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bekkering Ellis Funeral Home, 1 Mohawk Ave., Scotia. A mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13th at St. Joseph's Church, First St, Scotia. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Kings Rd. Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Glendale Home Activity Department, 59 Hetcheltown Rd. Scotia, 12302 or St. Joseph's Church, McArthur Dr. Scotia, NY 12302.
