He was born in Little Falls, NY and was the son of Junior Glen Dopp and Bertha Mae Rice Dopp. His wife of 43 years was Mary Beth Sammler Dopp. They have two sons, Jeffrey Dopp and Jonathan Dopp.
Gary graduated from Scotia-Glenville High School in 1966 and then enlisted in the army for 3 years. He served in Vietnam as a helicopter mechanic. He worked for General Electric in Schenectady as a machinist for 35 years after leaving the army. He enjoyed driving school bus for the Scotia-Glenville CSD after retiring from GE.
Gary was active as a volunteer throughout his life. He was first a fireman with the Scotia Fire Department, and subsequently a fireman, EMT, assistant chief, chief, and commissioner in the Beukendaal Fire Department. He also joined and volunteered at the Rotterdam Elks #2157, and delighted all with his exceptional culinary and bartender skills at many special events and wedding receptions. Similarly, he volunteered at the Rotterdam Eagles Club #3610 and the VFW Post 1895.
Gary is also survived by two sisters, Glenda (Gene) Tricozzi and Sharon Rozner, and one brother Timothy Dopp and several nieces and nephews and great- nieces and nephew
Calling hours will be held on Monday evening (November 21) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home in Scotia, with a funeral service to follow at 8 p.m. Interment will be in Jonesville Cemetery, Clifton Park, at the convenience of the family.
