Emily Horvath, 91, passed away Thursday, October 26th, peacefully at home.
Born in Bessemer, Alabama on June 4th 1926, she graduated high school in Marion and business school in Selma.
While there she met her future husband, Ernest Horvath, while he was stationed at nearby Craig Field, training pilots and fulfilling the remainder of his WWll service with the Army Air Corp. They were married in Ithaca, NY on March 30th 1947, where her husband studied at Ithaca College and later Syracuse University. They eventually settled in Scotia in 1955, where Ernest started his teaching career.
In addition to raising their son and daughter, her career as secretary in the legal profession (Dallas County), construction (Atlantic Tug/Condec), media (GE Broadcasting) and a family owned business (SpectraGraphics), spanned 60 years. She is predeceased by her husband, Ernest, in 2015. She is survived by a son, Elliott Horvath (Rita); daughter, Paulette DiGesare (Lawrence); three grandaughters, Michelle Jensen (Erik),Nicole Ikeda (Sato), Sarah Sullivan (Christopher); and four great-grandaughters, Calliegh Jenson, Karina Ikeda, Grace and Annabelle Sullivan.
Calling hours will be held at the Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, 1 Mohawk Ave., Scotia on Saturday, November 11th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A private internment will be held at Saratoga National Cemetary at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made, in her name, as caretaker for her husband to the Parkinson's Foundation, 200 Southeast 1st St., Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
