Elton L Burns

Elton L. Burns, 90, of Rotterdam, passed away Sunday, August 6th, 2017.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Norma L. Burns, and granddaughter, Lauren Burns.

He is survived by two sons, Thomas I. Burns and his wife Nancy of Salem, VA, and Clayton W. Burns and his wife, Cindi Anthony of Baldwinsville, NY; grandchildren, Rochelle Pierce (Dan), Richard Anthony, Daniel Burns, Kristyn Anthony, Thomas Burns, Kara Anthony, and Timothy Burns; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Elton was born February 20, 1927, a son of J. Harold and Florence Livingston Burns.

He was a lifelong resident of Rotterdam, graduating from Draper High School. He received a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Union College and served in the US Navy in 1945 and 1946. He was an active member of Bellevue Reformed Church, serving the church in several capacities. He had a long, distinguished career with the State of New York Office of General Services, including serving as one of its Directors up to the time of his retirement.

He enjoyed traveling, particularly to visit with family, and vacations in Myrtle Beach and Maine.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home on Friday, August 11th, from 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, August 12th, at 9:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Schenectady Memorial Park, Rotterdam.

Elton was well regarded by those who knew him for his friendliness and generosity, and was a prolific supporter of numerous charitable organizations. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution in Elton's memory to a charity of your choice.
