Elsie (Mingle) Nicholson, 91, passed away peacefully at home on Monday March 13, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born February 22, 1932 in Cumberland, Maryland to George and Magdaline (Spoerri) Mingle. She graduated in 1949 from Olney High School in Philadelphia, PA. She was a lifelong baseball fan, attending Phillies games with her dad as a child. Her yearbook quote, "If it's something about sports you want to know, ask Elsie".
After graduating from high school, she and her family moved to Scotia. She met her husband Richard in December 1962 and they were married on her birthday February 22, 1963. In the early 80's she became a die hard NY Mets fan. She loved attending games at Shea Stadium and Citi Field with her family. In the later years, she watched every single televised Mets game including Spring training games.
Her family by far was the most important thing in her life. She loved attending her grandchildren's countless sporting events over the course of many years. Mom also loved animals, especially dogs, cats and horses. For the past 7 years Mom was a participant of the Eddy Senior Care PACE program, which provided her with daily home care.
The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the entire staff of ESC, most notably the HHAs that cared for her throughout the years: Savitri, Shelly, Dominique, Eva, Ashton, Wanda, Barbara, Joanne, Cindy, Amy, Maddi, Malini, Evette, Sandra and Linda. Additionally the family wishes to express our gratitude for care and compassion provide by Community Hospice.
She was predeceased by her husband Richard Nicholson in 1996. She is survived by her daughters Kim Leffler (Chris Rattazzi) and Dawn Santor (Mark) as well as her beloved grandchildren Jesse Leffler, Gabrielle Perry (Luke) and Nick Leffler (Victoria Carringi).
Calling hours will be on Saturday March 25 from 9:30 am to 11:30 a.m. at Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, 1 Mohawk Ave., Scotia NY, with a service immediately following. Internment will be private at the convenience of the family. Following the service, family and friends are invited to a gathering at 12:30 p.m. at Max410 at The Waters Edge (Lighthouse), 2 Freemans Bridge Rd, Glenville, downstairs in the Mohawk room .
