Eleanor Marks, of Glenville, NY, passed away on January 6, 2019. She was 87.
Eleanor was born in Camden, NJ, and raised in Schenectady.
She graduated from Draper in 1947 at age 16 and received a degree in biology from Centre College in Danville, KY, in 1951. After college, Eleanor worked in the tube department at GE where she met Ken Marks. They were married in June 1953. Eleanor was an avid outdoorswoman who enjoyed gardening, tenting, hiking, canoeing, and cross-country skiing. She sewed, embroidered, and tatted. She enjoyed playing board, card, and yard games. Eleanor was active in Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, leading dens and troops, and taking on roles at the Pack and Association levels. Eleanor and Ken had many fond memories of square dancing at the Ponderosa Square Dance Hall, and loved their friends there, who affectionately dubbed themselves "Rebers' Rebels." They spent many wonderful summers on Galway Lake, and enjoyed road trips in their converted Ford van. She was active in her churches, Bellevue Reformed and later First Reformed Church of Scotia, of which she was a member for more than 40 years.
Eleanor was predeceased by Kenneth Marks; her husband of 57 years.
She is survived by son, John Marks (Michele) of Ormond Beach, Florida; son, William Marks (Carol) of Scotia; daughter, Susan VanOmmeren (Len) of West Charlton, and daughter, Catherine Marks of Brooklyn; and four grandchildren, Greg Marks, Michael Marks, and Trudi and Grace VanOmmeren, as well as four step-grandchildren.
