Edward "Eddie" Venckus, 88, passed away May 9, 2016 at the Canton Regency Senior Assisted Living in Canton, Ohio. He was born April 10, 1928 to John and Cecilia Venckus in Scotia. Eddie graduated from Scotia High School in 1946. He was later employed by General Electric, the State of NY and Scotia Public Works. Eddie loved working in the outdoors. Eddie lived his entire life in Scotia; 85 years in his childhood home, loved by everyone who knew him, only recently moving to be closer to family. He loved going to his high school reunions to see his peers, and he loved meeting friends for coffee and meals at the Dairy Circus and the Rotterdam Meal Site. An avid baseball fan, Eddie could tell you the stats on most, if not all, baseball players. In addition to enjoying following baseball as an avid Mets fan and follower of the Cleveland Indians, Eddie was a true sports fan, not only of baseball but football and basketball. At Canton Residency he developed a love for bingo and collected a load of candybar winnings. Eddie also enjoyed learning about his Lithuanian Heritage. Eddie was a kind, caring, gentle, loyal and hardworking individual who was a good friend to all who knew him. If you were fortunate to have a conversation with him, he would remember every detail the next time you met. In addition to his parents, Eddie was predeceased by sister, Eleanor Zimmerman; brother-in-law, Alfred Zimmerman; and Penny, his faithful pet Collie of 10 years. He is survived by nephews, Alan Zimmerman (Liala) of North Canton, OH and Glenn Zimmerman (Karen) of Bainbridge, OH; his grandnephews and grandnieces all of Ohio, David (Shawnna) Bowman, Bryan (Stephanie) Bowman, Peter Zimmerman, Eric Zimmerman; grandnieces, Joan (Shaun) Miller, Nicole Zimmerman, and Alexandra Zimmerman; and his great-grandnephews and nieces, Derek Bowman, Alexandria Bowman, Samantha Bowman, Brianna Easterling, Athena Miller and Marcus Miller. Thank you to his neighbors and friends who loved him and sent a little Scotia to Canton during his time there through cards, letters and news clippings. He looked forward to receiving mail from Scotia every day. Services for Eddie will be on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, Inc., Scotia, with calling preceding at 9 a.m. Interment will take place in Memory Gardens.
