Edward H Kubicki, 94, of Scotia, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday December 21, 2024.
Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, Ed was son to Charles and Helen and younger brother to Charlie. After graduating high school and being naturally athletic, he made it to the semi-pro baseball league as a 3rd baseman and had a tryout for some scouts of the New York Yankees. He met Nancy (Anna) Smith also of Jersey City. He entered the Marine Corp in November 1951, stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. The Korean War was active and he was ordered to Camp Pendleton, CA. During a brief leave, he married the love of his life on September 20, 1952 and headed to California with his new bride. Many pictures from that time depict fun-loving, happy young people being silly and exploring a different part of the country than what they knew growing up. Pictures of Marine buddies playing basketball, hiking and trips to a new hotel called The Sands in Las Vegas. Ed was set to be deployed to Korea when the armistice was signed in July of 1953 and happily never had to use the skills he learned in training in an active military scenario.
Ed and Nancy moved back to Jersey City and started a family. Eddie, Michael, Linda, and Brian. He was employed as a butcher for Swift & Company in New York City. In 1972, Ed took a job opportunity in Albany to open and manage a new facility, moving his family from Jersey City to Scotia, NY. They never looked back.
Ed was a proud father and husband. His family meant everything to him. He loved being up at The Camp on The Great Sacandaga Lake barbequing for family and friends. When he was around family and friends, he shined. He really enjoyed being social. To say that he was an amazing horseshoe player is the understatement of a century (well, at least 94 years of it).
In 2005, we started Thursday Night Pizza Night. Every week, he said it was the highlight of his week. He looked forward to it. That scheduled time with family got him through the loss of his beloved Nancy in 2009. He lived a full life relatively unaffected by illness. He was able to live in his home in Scotia being well cared for by his son Eddie and daughter Linda.
Ed is survived by all his children, Edward J Kubicki of Scotia, NY; Michael & Diane Kubicki of Highland Lakes, NJ; Linda (Kubicki) & James Yando of Rotterdam, NY; Brian and Janet (Martinez) Kubicki of Clifton Park, NY; Grandchildren Michael Kubicki of Hackettstown, NJ; Jason Kubicki of Tempe, AZ; and Brianna Kubicki of Clifton Park, NY.
On Friday, December 27, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Scotia, NY a 10am visitation with the family will be followed by a Mass at 11:00am. A celebration of Ed’s life will be planned in the upcoming months.
