Dean Engert Obituary

Dean Engert, 55, of West Sand Lake, New York, died of a heart attack on March 15, 2024.

 

Dean was born in Schenectady, New York in 1968 and grew up in Scotia, New York.  He was an accomplished, self-employed interior finisher, excelling in carpentry and drywall installation throughout his lifelong career. 

 

Dean was a talented hockey player in his youth and loved to play golf, adjusting his aim to correct for a legendary slice. He was also an avid sports fan, rooting for the Boston Bruins and Dallas Cowboys since his youth. 

 

Dean is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Margaret and Duke Welch, and his paternal grandparents, Avis and Walter Engert. He is survived by his parents, Patti and Fred Engert of Port Orange, Florida, his brother, Greg Engert (Kelsey) of Washington, DC, his sister, Lara Engert (Shane) of Chicago, Illinois, his sons, Hayden and Adam Engert and their mother Lisa Schaffer (Keith) of Schenectady, New York, his beloved partner, Melissa Monaco, of West Sand Lake, and her children, Christopher and Taylor, and her granddaughter, Natalia. He is also survived by his nieces, Penny and Maggie Cheary and Arlo Engert, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. 

 

Services will be held on Friday, March 22 at 11 am at Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home on Mohawk Avenue in Scotia.  The funeral home will be open at 10 am for those who wish to call.
