David P. Acker, Sr., of Scotia, NY, passed away at home on the morning of February 27, 2017.

Born in Johnstown, NY, Mr. Acker was 81 years old. He was the elder son of the late Adolph and Elizabeth Acker (Elizabeth Sedivy) and had been predeceased by a brother, Paul D. Acker.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan (Martin) Acker and his children, Nancy Lannak, David P. Acker, Jr. and Johanna Liva. He also is survived by grandchildren, Henry Lannak, Charles Lannak, Dennis Live and Roxanne Liva; and one great-grandson, Gavin Rodden.

A 1953 graduate of Johnstown High School, Mr. Acker attended Syracuse University (1957) where he majored in Political Science and competed in varsity rowing. He later completed a Masters in Education at Albany State University in 1963 and began a 26-year career teaching Social Studies with North Colonie School District until he retired in 1990. Over his lifetime, Mr. Acker demonstrated deep interest in a wide variety of topics that married his natural aptitude for mechanics and engineering, with history. He'd long been affiliated with the Pine Tree Rifle Club in Johnstown, Upstate Train Associates, Electric City Riders Motorcycle Club in Schenectady, and Vincent Owners Club in United Kingdom. His careful restorations of antique and vintage motorcycles were well-regarded, as were meticulous models of aircraft and ships of historical interest; he was occasionally cited and published in hobby publications related to his interests Further,

Mr. Acker served as a founding member of the Mohawk-Hudson Chapter of the Antique Outboard Motor Club, Inc. and a member and officer of the Glenville Fish and Game Club. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral nor formal services to mark his passing. He and his family owe tremendous gratitude to many friends, to dear neighbors, and to Schenectady County Community Hospice.
