Brian R. Dunlavey, 76, of Ballston Spa, a beloved husband, devoted father, and friend left us unexpectedly on January 7, 2025.
Brian was born on April 23, 1948 in Schenectady, NY. He graduated from Shenendehowa High School in 1966 and then enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in Naval Aviation (AMH2) for four years, graduating in the top ten percent of his class and was honorably discharged. Brian proudly continued supporting the military as a Quality Control Inspector at General Electric/Naval Nuclear Laboratory – Kesselring Site, retiring in 2008 after 34 years of service.
When Brian wasn’t hanging with his “Cars & Coffee” buddies or working on his ’41 Dodge truck, he enjoyed participating in “Cruise-Ins” (where he won many trophies). Brian shared his father’s love of motorsports, both as an enthusiast and on the racetrack at the local speedways. After his stock car racing days, he eagerly supported fellow racers as a member of their pit crew. Brian lived life full of adventure, spending time in the Adirondacks at his camp “Little Barkeater” with family and friends. Brian was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed the comradery as much as the deer hunting. Whether it was attending a sporting event or theatre performance, Brian was there to support his children. Berta will fondly remember their picnics and drives through the mountains, trips to Cape Cod, and cruising the Caribbean.
Brian is predeceased by his parents Herbert Dunlavey and Margaret Dorman Dunlavey and his stepmother Anita Dunlavey. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Roberta Raitt Dunlavey, his daughter Lynn Morin (Jim), and sons Benjamin Dunlavey and Greg Dunlavey, grandson Preston Morin, brothers Robert Dunlavey (Terri Korb), Edward Dunlavey (Deb), John Dunlavey (Emily), and sister Dawn Wittner (Hal), several nieces, nephews, and many friends and relatives.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025 from 9am to 10:30am at Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, 1 Mohawk Avenue, Scotia, NY 12302. A service will be held at 10:30am. A committal service with full military honors will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 12:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Saratoga County Animal Shelter, a veterans organization of your choice, or Community Emergency Corporation Inc. of Ballston Spa in Brian’s honor.
