Allen Jude Frament ("Big Al"), devoted husband, proud father of three children, and proud grandfather ("Gump") of one grandchild, 81, of Scotia, NY, passed away on May 20, 2025 after a courageous battle with leukemia.
Born in Cohoes, NY on 9/13/43 to the late Albert and Elma Frament, he enjoyed soccer and gymnastics. A graduate of Shenendehowa High School, he was a daredevil in his younger days and, on one occasion, at age 14, jumped off the top of Twin Bridges into the Mohawk River after accepting a dare from his friends. Al married the love of his life, Linda, who he met at a square dance, and enjoyed 61 years of marriage. He completed an apprenticeship for GE and had a career as a draftsman and estimator at Alco and Schenectady Steel for over 30 years.
Big Al loved golfing, fishing, spending time with family at Orange Lake, winning Texas Hold 'Em tournaments and telling jokes with friends and family. He enjoyed going to the casino with his daughter, yet they never came out ahead. A lifelong Yankees fan, he enjoyed rivalries with his two sons, who are die hard Red Sox fans. His "trip of a lifetime" was to Australia with his son Jason where they toured the country, snorkeled at the Great Barrier Reef and learned how to crack a whip.
Gump especially enjoyed teaching Joshua, his grandson, how to fish and golf. He seemed to know exactly when and where the fish would bite.
Allen was a simple man who loved the simple things in life including daily word finds and puzzles while drinking coffee with his beloved wife, Linda.
Allen was predeceased by his parents and his brother Roger, and is survived by his loving wife, Linda, his children, Tamie Pitt (Brian), Jeffrey (Betsy) and Jason (Amy), his grandson, Joshua and his brothers Bill (Robin), David (Maryann) and Kenny (Donna) along with several nieces and nephews and his sister-in-law Joan.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, 1 Mohawk Avenue, Scotia, NY.
